Officials announce possible coronavirus outbreak in Washington nursing facility | TheHill – The Hill

The possible outbreak is at a long-term care center in Kirkland, Wash., called Life Care Center, officials from Washington state and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated on a media call Saturday.

Officials on Saturday announced a possible outbreak of coronavirus at a nursing center in Washington State, a major circumstance offered the risks the virus poses to senior individuals.

Authorities stated the risk to the public remains low. About 80 percent of individuals who get the infection are not thought to require hospitalization, but the risk is highest for those with underlying health conditions and the senior.

Duchin said a lack of availability of tests and strict requirements for screening from the CDC had postponed recognition of individuals with the infection.

Jeff Duchin, a Washington state health official, said they are “extremely concerned about a break out in this setting, where there are many older people.”

There are two presumptive positives associated with the center, one a healthcare employee and the other a lady in her 70s.

Contributing to the concern, officials said roughly 27 of 108 homeowners and 25 of 180 personnel have some symptoms and are being tested.

” If we had the capability to check earlier, I’m sure we would have recognized patients previously,” he stated.

The news

of the prospective nursing facility break out comes after officials in Washington state revealed the
very first death in the United States from the coronavirus.
