California sees 1 million unemployment claims in less than two weeks – CNBC

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that the state has seen 1 million unemployment claims in less than two weeks as the coronavirus pandemic has caused businesses being shut down across the state.

“We just passed the 1 million mark, in terms of the variety of claims, simply considering that March 13,” Newsom said.

The guv applauded the proposed Senate relief expense to help fight the coronavirus pandemic. California supplies as much as $450 per week for unemployment insurance, Newsom said, and the proposed Senate expense would include $600 each week for approximately four months.
