Dueling letters from MLB, Players Association lay out gulf between sides – The Athletic

The Players Association isn’t persuaded Major League Baseball really desires to play in 2020.

In a letter sent out Wednesday, Major League Baseball deputy commissioner Dan Halem detailed the various factors the league rejected a proposition for a 114-game season from the Players Association. On Friday, top union negotiator Bruce Meyer sent out a blistering response, implicating MLB of employing a “cynical technique of denying America of baseball games,” while adding that the league “has actually not done anything to convince” the players that its monetary claims are precise and alerting that the union has no responsibility to an expanded postseason if the league attempts to carry out a schedule it teases its own.

“We enjoy to hear that ‘the Commissioner is devoted to playing Baseball in 2020,'” Meyer composed in recommendation to Halem’s letter, “given that MLB’s course of conduct continues to cause doubts.”
