Weinstein raped her and the injury from assault resulted in self-harm and dependency.
Young said that in the early 1990s she saw cuts on Sciorra’s thigh one night when they were seeing the Academy Awards together.
“I asked her what those cuts were and if she was cutting herself,” Young testified. “She admitted that she was.”
Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala began his line of questioning by asking Young if Sciorra used clothing short enough, even in winter season, to expose the scars.
He continued with a series of rapid-fire questions directed at Young, which caused Judge James Burke disrupting Aidala and purchasing him to “take a seat.” (Aidala had actually overlooked numerous objections from the prosecution.)
“Did you call a physician when you saw the cuts on your pal?”
“Did you seek any medical intervention for your good friend?”
“Did you talk with anybody about how to assist your buddy?”
“Did you do anything to help your friend?”
Burke disrupted, spoke to the lawyers independently, and dismissed Young, who was seen leaving the court house in tears.
Aidala’s line of questioning followed another among Weinstein’s male attorneys grilled star Rosie Perez about what she did– and did refrain from doing– after Sciorra told her about the supposed rape.
Perez testified that a person night in the early 1990s she called Sciorra, asking her to head out to a nightclub.
“She was reacting, talking in an unusual, low, whispery voice as though she was concealing from somebody, and says, ‘I think something bad occurred,'” Perez stated mimicing Sciorra’s voice at the time.
Perez stated she pressed her friend for more details.
“I believe I was raped,” she recounted Sciorra telling her.
Cheronis questioned her about what she did after the phone call.
“You never checked on your good friend after that?” he asked. “You never drove to her home that night?”
“As far as you knew, she might have been injured at the time you spoke to her, and you didn’t even go to see her?”
“Did you head out that night?”
“You didn’t ask her about it every day after that?”
Perez said, her voice shaking: “When you have a friend who informs you something like that, a very friend, you don’t understand what to do. I was in shock, I remained in a panic, I kept calling her, over and over again, weeping, praying that she would select up the phone.”
She stated that about a week later on she spoke to Sciorra, who guaranteed her she was fine.
“I thought I was being considerate by leaving her alone,” Perez stated. “It was extremely traumatic for me, so I knew it was extremely, extremely traumatic for her.”
In her testimony, she detailed how Sciorra informed her about the supposed assault throughout their preliminary call and in the months that followed.
She said Sciorra explained getting up on the floor with her nightgown hiked up, adding that she was “extremely, extremely scared.”
Perez said she had asked Sciorra who had raped her and that she repeatedly stated “I can’t, I can’t” before hanging up.
A couple of months later on, Perez stated, she heard a report that Weinstein was stalking her pal. Perez said she “put two and 2 together” and called Sciorra.
“It was Harvey Weinstein that raped you that night when I called you, wasn’t it?” she affirmed she asked Sciorra.
Perez said Sciorra started sobbing and screaming.
“She kept saying, ‘Oh my god! Oh my god! How did you know?'” Perez stated, including that that’s when Sciorra stated what happened that night in her New York apartment or condo. “She told me she was puzzled about why he was at her door standing there.”
“She stated, ‘I attempted to battle back, I attempted,’ and said she ‘d wound up in the bedroom with her hands pinned over her head and he raped her and he …” she included, her voice breaking. “He took out and came on her nightgown.”
She affirmed that Sciorra made her promise she wouldn’t inform anyone, which she encouraged her friend to go to the cops.
“She stated, ‘I can’t, I can’t. He’ll destroy my career,'” Perez recalled.
Perez said, her voice shaking: “When you have a good friend who informs you something like that, a very close good friend, you do not know what to do.”I believed I was being respectful by leaving her alone,” Perez stated. A few months later on, Perez said, she heard a report that Weinstein was stalking her friend. Perez stated, including that that’s when Sciorra stated what happened that night in her New York apartment or condo.”She stated, ‘I tried to combat back, I tried,’ and stated she ‘d ended up in the bedroom with her hands pinned over her head and he raped her and he …” she added, her voice breaking.
