Late block sparks brawl between Kansas, Kansas State The melee started when Kansas States DaJuan Gordon – ESPN

LAWRENCE, Kan.– An enormous brawl spoiled completion of Kansas’ 81-60 win over rival Kansas State on Tuesday, with players from both teams throwing punches as the stunned crowd at Allen Fieldhouse looked on.

The melee began when Kansas forward Silvio De Sousa blocked DaJuan Gordon’s shot, then dominated him taunting. With the Jayhawks up by 22 points late in the game and seemingly dribbling

out the clock, De Sousa was removed by Gordon near midcourt and Gordon tried to adopt a layup. The Jayhawks ‘big male recuperated and obstructed his shot, sending Gordon to the floor. He was hit with a technical nasty for teasing. Kansas State’s Antonio Gordon and David Sloan quickly went after De Sousa, and from there players from both benches ran onto the flooring. At one point during the brawl, De Sousa, who had actually thrown numerous punches, held a stool above his head prior to assistant coach Jerrance Howard got it from him. It took numerous minutes for stress to deescalate, before both groups left the court. Regional policeman too

as coaches from both groups assisted separate the battle. Previous Kansas star Wayne Simien, an adviser to the team, also ran onto the floor to help separate the melee. Multiple fans were captured in the fight and scrambled to safety. Adding to the bizarre surface, both teams were summoned back from the locker rooms by the authorities, and one-tenth of a second was put on the clock. Kansas State shot technical totally free throws to a chorus of boos from the few thousand fans who were still in the arena. Kansas coach Bill Self called it an”embarrassment “and stated there would be consequences as soon as he was done totally evaluating what had occurred.

“It’s not something to be happy of, “Self said.”What happened showed no signs of toughness. It’s a sign of immaturity and selfishness more so than durability.” Kansas athletic director Jeff Long stated in a declaration after the video game that he and Self would review the event”together with the Big 12 Conference

and Kansas State to figure out suitable repercussions.”Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber stated he encouraged his players to” withdraw “at the end of the video game. He stated he was shaking hands with opposing coaches and gamers when the brawl ensued.”I didn’t see it,” he stated.”It’s frustrating it ended that method. … You win with class, you lose with class. Frustrating anything can occur at the end.”Added Weber: “It’s my men.

It’s my fault. … You want it would’ve ended a little various. It’s unfortunate.”De Sousa has been at the center of the team’s existing situation with the NCAA,
