Michelle Waterson ‘disheartened’ by UFC Tampa weigh-in debacle, Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants her to calm down – MMA Mania

In what will no doubt come as disappointing news to Paige VanZant, who was hoping to take advantage of a strawweight chance later this year, it seems leading ranked 115-pound competitor, Michelle Waterson, is moving on with her UFC Fight Night 161 centerpiece this weekend on ESPN+ in Tampa, Florida.

A bout that will not pay for the one-pound allowance unique to non-title battles.

Friday morning is going to be very, really fascinating.

And since the “Karate Hottie” would not be pressured into taking a catch-weight battle, opponent Joanna Jedrzejczyk will be required to attempt another”scary weight cut,”a circumstance that has left Waterson feeling both distracted and disheartened.

Regardless of

today’s weight-cutting headings, Jedrzejczyk can’t seem to determine what all the hassle is about. By her estimate, any talk of can be found in heavy is premature, as the UFC Tampa weigh-ins are arranged for Friday morning, giving her plenty of time to shed the excess pounds.

The winner of this battle, assuming it goes off without a drawback– or a death

— is expected to move on to challenge ruling females’s strawweight champ Weili Zhang, who captured the crown with a first-round destruction of Jessica Andrade back in August.

“She’s made the weight a lot of times,” Waterson continued. “She’s combated at strawweight more than she’s battled at any other weight in the UFC. I don’t see how this would be any various. We’ve both known about this fight for rather a long time, so that’s the most discouraging part of it all. I took this fight so I could battle Weili [Zhang] next– not [Valentina] Shevchenko.”

I believe she did miss something, like this report claiming she informed UFC of her inability to make weight as early as recently. Perhaps it was an effort to skip the ruthless weight cut by getting Waterson to grant leniency, but “Karate Hottie” wasn’t taking the bait.

“I heard that Joanna was having difficulty making weight which she desired to renegotiate the agreement at 120 [pounds],” Waterson told

MMA Fighting. “I took this battle under the assumption that we were both in contention for the strawweight belt, and to me, that’s a very serious endeavor. There’s only a couple things you have to do as a fighter, and among them is make weight. My objective is to eliminate for the strawweight belt– not for the flyweight belt, not for the featherweight belt. The 115 belt.”

“Did I miss something? Did I miss out on the weigh-ins today or what? Because the weigh-ins are on Friday,” Jedrzejczyk informed

her Instagram followers. “I do not know what’s going on, the weigh-ins are [Friday] and you’re all fretted. The battle is on, the weigh-ins are on Friday. Keep it calm, men. All great, detailed. I will see you there.”
