US soldiers withdrew from Qamishli last week on Donald Trump’s orders, one image in specific – of a United States soldier in his armoured automobile wearing YPJ (the Kurdish ladies’s combating force) insignia on his sleeve – resonated with the Kurdish allies they were leaving in rush.

” The American soldiers are just like us – disappointed and stunned with this political decision,” Kino Gabriel states. “But it is not their fault. We honour their sacrifices too.”

On our way to Qamishli, the largest Kurdish city in northern Syria, we see an US military convoy escorted by fighter jets heading east towards the Iraqi border.
