- MacBook Pros from 2016 or later (Apple switched to butterfly type in the Pros in 2016)
It’s disappointing to see that Sidecar does not work on any older laptops without the company’s perpetually struggling butterfly keyboard, which has gone through 3 models and is now covered under an extended service warranty program Apple introduced in 2015 specifically to address the issue for certain designs.
Apple released macOS Catalina today, and one of the upgrade’s marquee features is Sidecar, which lets you use your iPad as a 2nd display screen for your Mac laptop computer or desktop. The feature is developed to be a convenient way to provide yourself some additional screen genuine estate, particularly if you frequently carry around both an iPad and an Apple laptop computer. The Verge‘s Dieter Bohn called it his favorite new function on Catalina in our review.
